City of Fredericton Engineering & Operations Engineering Technician I (Electrician) Roadway Operations (Salary: $27.97 plus BSA) Competition #5927.21 CUPE Local 508 Description: Under the direction of the Supervisor, Roadway Operations – Engineering and Operations Department, the incumbent is responsible to assemble, install, test, troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and related equipment in relation to Traffic Operations. The work is physically strenuous in nature and involves the use of hand tools and/or manually operated equipment. Assignments will require the operation of Municipal vehicles. The incumbent may work under supervision and receive daily instruction. Education and Experience: • Minimum prerequisite is graduation from a recognized post-secondary Engineering Technology program. • Secondary education supplemented with NB Department of Labour certification as an Electrician and at least five (5) years’ experience at the Journeyman’s level • Training and Certification from the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) would be considered an asset • Lean 6 Sigma experience and training would be considered an asset Position Specifications • Performs functions consistent with construction and maintenance of traffic operations related infrastructure and systems. • Performs related work as required. • Ability to work after hours and willing to work shifts, including a regular night shift if required. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public. • Minimum NB Class 5 driver’s license. Knowledge and Desired Skills: • Ability to follow instructions accurately as issued by a Foreman or Supervisor. • Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in work assignments. • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, methods and materials used. • Well developed interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
