City of Fredericton Engineering & Operations Engineering Technician I Roadway Operations (Salary: $27.97 plus BSA) Competition # 5933.21 CUPE Local 508
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Roadway Operations – Engineering and Operations Department, the incumbent will perform work of a technical nature related to roads, sidewalks, storm sewers, and rights-of-ways. The work is physically strenuous in nature and involves the use of hand tools and/or manually operated equipment. Assignments will require the operation of Municipal vehicles. The incumbent may work under supervision and receive daily instruction.
Education and Experience:
➔ Minimum prerequisite is graduation from a recognized post-secondary Engineering Technology program.
➔ Valid NB Class 3 driver’s license with E endorsement (air brakes) would be considered an asset
➔ Lean 6 Sigma experience and training would be considered an asset
➔ Performs functions consistent with construction and maintenance of roads, streets, sidewalks, storm sewer and rights-of-ways.
➔ Performs related work as required.
➔ Assigned to snow and ice control operations during winter months
➔ Ability to work after hours and willing to work shifts, including a regular night shift if required.
➔ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
Knowledge and Desired Skills:
➔ Ability to follow instructions accurately as issued by a Foreman or Supervisor.
➔ Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in work assignments.
➔ Knowledge of the tools, equipment, methods and materials used.
➔ Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
