Jays Care Rookie League Coordinator
Term: Contract – 5 months (May-September), Up to 35 hours per week.
Overview:
The Wolastoqey Tribal Council (WTCI) is a not-for-profit organization whose role is to provide capacity building opportunities for its member communities within the traditional Wolastoqey territory in New Brunswick.

The Wolastoqey Tribal Council is currently seeking to fill the exciting position of Jays Care Rookie League Coordinator.
The League Coordinator will oversee the Jays Care Foundation Rookie League in the 6 Wolastoqey Communities. The program will run from mid-June to the end of September and includes baseball/softball practices and games for the 6 participating communities. This unique baseball or softball program is community based designed to bring families and community members together to connect and have fun. The program will help enhance the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health of our children and youth while providing them with opportunities to thrive and succeed in sport. We require an enthusiastic, motivated, flexible individual with exceptional teamwork and organizational skills. This individual will report to the WTCI Executive Director.
Job Responsibilities:
- Attend a 2-day Virtual training (or in Toronto) with Jays Care at the onset of employment (May 2022)
- Research, planning, development, implementation of the Rookie League.
- Raise awareness of the program, recruit coaches, and recruit players in each participating First Nation.
- Organize the practice and game play schedule and the system for teams.
- Assist Jays Care with Virtual coaches training and community visits (June 2022).
- Provide programming and support to participating First Nations.
- Manage league logistics daily (providing gas and food allowances to each community etc.)
- Liaising regularly with Jays Care to plan trainings, tournaments, and special events.
- Completing the end-of-program report.
- Plan and coordinate final tournament for teams to attend (food, diamonds, transportation, trophies, volunteers).
- Distributing uniforms, equipment, and other materials as needed.
- Responsible for helping to organize transportation in each community.
- Be available for assisting any issues that may occur during this program with communities/teams.
- Be in constant contact with coaches and community members about the program.
- Planning travel, accommodations, budget, and logistics for Fall Classic Tournament in Fall of 2022.
- Required to plan and attend the Fall Classic Tournament over the span of 3 days in the Fall of 2022.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with First Nation Communities
- Experience working with youth
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Organized with strong time management skills.
- Knowledge of baseball/softball an asset.
- Knowledge of Wolastoqey Culture and Language would be considered an asset
- Experience in physical education/recreation or equivalent combination of experience is an asset.
Additional Requirements:
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Must be willing to travel when required.
- A clean Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Report.
