FireSmart Crew Supervisor

32hrs weekly | $18.75 Hourly | Contract (10 Weeks)

 

 

Position Summary:

 

SMFN is in search of a highly skilled and energetic individual to be a FireSmart Crew Supervisor. The FireSmart team supports wildfire preparedness, prevention, and mitigation through public education, assessments, and mitigative work to reduce community risk from wildfires. Reporting to the ISETS Coordinator and Public Works Manager, the FireSmart Crew Supervisor is responsible for supporting the implementation of the FireSmart program by working to assist community members in taking steps to FireSmart their homes, community buildings and supporting public education. Start date: July 8th, 2024

 

Essential Duties:

 

  • Supervising gear maintenance, including daily inspections, cleaning, and general maintenance.
  • Supervising general yard work, including moving firewood and cleaning gutters.
  • Vegetation management, including pruning, brushing, and chipping.
  • Attending community events such as Community Wildfire Preparedness Days, farmer’s markets, local sporting events, school presentations, tradeshows, and more to engage with the public and distribute FireSmart information.
  • Able to work in all-weather types, including heat, cold, and rain, as well as various terrain types.
  • Assisting with rapid mitigation during local wildfire emergencies

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Knowledge of safe work policies related to equipment, tools and work procedures.
  • Ability to understand and ePectively carry out oral and written instructions with minimal

supervision.

  • Able to work ePectively and cooperatively within a diverse team to achieve group and

organizational goals.

  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to communicate with tack and diplomacy with the public.
  • Maintain excellent physical condition and stamina to perform heavy manual outdoor work.
  • Ability to be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments, and corporate structures.
  • Able to take in-house training and certification as required.
  • Able to work long hours, including weekends.
  • Grade 12 diploma.

 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience in the use of weed trimmer, ladders, hand tools, and other motorized equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience in creating safe work zones in traPic with the use of cones and signage.
  • Experience supervising a crew of workers.
  • Experience and/or education in wildfire management and FireSmart knowledge and experience.
  • Experience and/or education in Forestry or Biology.
